Hello Friends,

Welcome to our first Bossie’s Justice newsletter!  We intend using this forum to keep you all up to speed with the current status within Bossie’s Justice and what our plans are going forward.

Progress thus far:

We held our first (very successful) introductory public meeting on 10th February 2010,  at the Emnotweni Arena. Thanks Nelspruit for the fantastic support, approx. 480 people arrived leading to a shortage of seats, with latecomers having to either stand at the back or sit on the floor!  Nobody present could doubt the sincerity and passion with which our main speaker, Rupert Taljaard, sought and received everyone’s enthusiastic support for this worthy cause.

A steering committee has been appointed with functions and portfolios as follows:

Committee meetings were held on Saturday 6th February and Thursday 16th February 2010.

Our following initial priorities were agreed:

Publishing of rewards for information in conjunction with the SAPS

Get (very visible) helicopter patrols in the air, with streamlined  communications with the pilots, the provisioning and management of fuel resources as necessary and the procurement of infra-red tracking devices for the helicopters.
Planning and co-coordinating of the collection of funds for the trust

The fund:

  • Bossies Justice will be registered as a non-profit making Article 21 company.
  • We have entered into a principal agreement with KPMG for the management of the fund and with FNB for the management of our proposed debit order system.

The committee heartily thanks those Nelspruiters who have already donated to the fund which now stands at a healthy R60 000.00!  This without the many debit-order authorities that have been signed for activation from  the 1st March 2010.

In the pipeline:

Toyota Nelspruit is currently in the process of establishing whether they will be able to make a vehicle available to the fund.

This vehicle will be used for both crime prevention patrols around Nelspruit and it’s environs (with emphasis on house-breaking, murder and robbery) and for crime detection work.  Our aim is to eventually have a minimum of ten vehicles (5 bakkies and 5 sedans), as well as a panel van specifically kitted out for on-the-spot crime-scene forensic investigations.

Paul Viviers has kindly agreed to arrange for the purchase of the “Thermo Vision” infra-red detection equipment for the helicopters on favorable terms for us. He has also made a piece of ground along the N4 available to us that can be used as a helicopter landing strip and a base for us to put up “offices”. We also hope to be able to start our own dog unit there. Paul, we are ever thankful to you!

Our support to and co-operation with the SAPS, their specialist units, the various area sectors of the community police forums as well as the private security companies working in Nelspruit is of the utmost importance to us. Without this co-operation, we will not be able to deliver a positive and successful contribution to the solving and prevention of violent crime in Nelspruit.  In this regard we ask for everyone’s wholehearted support  –  not just in monitory terms but in the giving of your time and energy as well.

We especially appeal to those with specialist knowledge and experience in crime solving and prevention techniques to contact us so that we can build a database of available skills and service providers. We very urgently need you!
